What do young migrant women need to succeed in Europe?
The results of the Erasmus+ Teens2Queens Survey on Key Competence Gaps highlight important insights for successful integration of young female migrants.
Our research within 209 many young migrant women orign from more than 20 countries shows that they already possess strong interpersonal skills, resilience, and intercultural openness—competences often developed through migration experiences, family responsibilities, and everyday problem-solving. However, these valuable skills are rarely recognised or supported by existing education and training systems.
At the same time, the survey identified systemic barriers across European countries:
- complex administrative systems
- experiences of discrimination
- limited opportunities to learn about active citizenship and entrepreneurship
Young participants clearly expressed the need for practical, competence-based learning opportunities that help them:
✔ navigate public institutions
✔ understand their rights and responsibilities
✔ participate in community and democratic life
✔ develop entrepreneurial ideas and financial skills
The Teens2Queens Erasmus+ project responds to these findings by developing an inclusive training programme for young migrant women aged 15–20 by May 2026, focusing on key European competences such as personal development, citizenship, and entrepreneurship. The goal is to strengthen confidence, agency, and participation—supporting both social inclusion and stronger communities across Europe.
For integration service providers, educators, and policy makers:
These findings underline the importance of accessible, learner-centred programmes that recognise existing competences and remove structural barriers to participation.
