On 10 November 2025 (13:30-16:30 CET), leading experts from research and industry will gather online for the SteamDry Midterm Conference, a milestone event showcasing advances in cleaner, smarter, and more energy-efficient steam-based drying technologies.
Funded by the Horizon Europe programme, the SteamDry project aims to transform industrial drying processes by reducing energy consumption and environmental impact through innovative steam technologies and digital solutions.
Over three hours, the conference will present the project’s progress, pilot results, and new industrial concepts that contribute to a low-carbon, circular manufacturing future. Key topics include energy efficiency, process digitalisation, steam purification, equipment design, and life-cycle sustainability.
Featured speakers and sessions include:
- Project insights and progress — Harri Kiiskinen (VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland).
- Estimating energy savings potential — Sabrina Dusek (AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH).
- Technical challenges: sealing and steam purification — Floor Boon (Wageningen Food & Biobased Research).
- Piloting the technology and digitalization at VTT — Roope Siilasto (VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland) and Petri Kannisto (VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut – BFI).
- Developing industrial dryer concepts — Kalle-Matti Romppainen (Valmet).
- Expectations of manufacturers & preliminary LCA results — Eemeli Hytönen (Metsä Group)  & José Luis Ares ( Universidade de Santiago de Compostela).
