JUUREVA (2025-2026) is an initiative funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education Strategic Fund (NOSTE) and currently under development at the University of Oulu, Finland, as part of its broader efforts to renew teacher education. It builds on the research-informed foundations and results of the Erasmus+ Teacher Academies project TESTEd, translating them into a modular and flexible framework for strategic educational development.
In an era marked by deepening societal complexity, accelerating global crises, and the irruption of advanced artificial intelligence (AI and AGI), educators face mounting pressures to respond to challenges for which no ready-made solutions exist. Issues such as sustainability, social and cultural diversity, and democratic education—once taken for granted—now demand deliberate attention and renewed pedagogical approaches.
JUUREVA addresses this reality by equipping teachers and teacher educators with transversal professional competences that enable them to navigate uncertainty, interdisciplinarity, and rapid change. Rather than offering static solutions (which risk becoming obsolete before implementation) JUUREVA supports the co-creation of context-sensitive pedagogical responses across various domains, by focusing its work on the promotion of future-ready teacher competences.
The project is grounded in collaborative, non-hierarchical methodologies, emphasizing sustained interaction across disciplines and between researchers, teacher educators, student teachers, and schools. This model fosters a culture of resilience, experimentation and collaboration, which can be tailored and deployed in a variety of settings: initial teacher education, continuous professional development, and curriculum development.
JUUREVA invites collaboration with European initiatives seeking to advance teacher education through flexible, future-oriented, and critically engaged approaches.
