Kallipolis APS

Kallipolis is a nonprofit organization that aims at improving livability in urban contexts through the approach of social urbanism.

It started in 2006 and follows the objectives of the UN-Habitat New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 11 – Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Kallipolis, therefore, works in Italy and other countries to promote a widespread application of the principles of sustainable development, social integration of marginal populations and groups, and to support the quality of life and safety in urban environments by making use of participatory planning tools.

We support community development working directly with communities to improve the quality and conditions of life in urban and periurban settlements. We plan and manage participatory planning processes aimed at involving citizens in public choices; in doing so we often manage complex projects, coordinating the activities of many strategic actors, we research the urban environment in cooperation with Italian and foreign Universities and research centres, we organize educational events and workshops and we design and test tools to support our activities and the activities of other local and international organizations and public administrations.

Kallipolis is made by a team of almost all women and is intrinsically multidisciplinary, operating through professionals from different backgrounds, varying from the socio-economic to more technical sectors, and with over 15 years of experience in Italy and abroad.
