Fifth ESFC Newsletter: ESFC Project Celebrates Its Final European Conference and Partner Meeting in Spain

The European Seniors Friendly Communities (ESFC) project marked a major milestone with its Final European Conference and Final Technical Meeting, hosted in Almendralejo, Spain, on 3 June 2026.

The event brought together seniors, educators, community professionals, local stakeholders, and partner representatives to reflect on the project’s achievements and discuss the future of age-friendly communities across Europe.

Highlights:

High-Level Support – The conference was honoured by the presence of the Mayor of Almendralejo, Mr. José María Ramírez Morán, and the President of the University of Older Adults of Almendralejo, Mr. Pedro Preciado Fernández, both of whom emphasised the importance of active ageing, social participation, and inclusion for older citizens.

Project Results – Participants learned about key ESFC outputs, including educational modules on Community and Health Care, Transportation, Housing, Social Participation, Outdoor Spaces and Buildings, and Respect and Social Inclusion. Local pilot activities carried out with seniors, educators, and stakeholders were also presented.

Final Technical Meeting – Partners from Spain, Ireland, and Italy reviewed all completed activities, assessed the project’s impact, discussed sustainability opportunities, and explored future cooperation. Talks also focused on developing a wider European network of organisations committed to age-friendly communities.

Looking Ahead – As the project concludes, the partnership is proud of the strong cooperation established across Europe. ESFC has demonstrated that creating age-friendly communities requires collaboration, participation, and a shared commitment to improving the quality of life of older people.

The consortium extends its sincere thanks to all participants, organisations, and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the project.
