Towards a European Syllabus in Teacher Education (TESTEd) is a three-year Erasmus+ Teacher Academy project (2022–2025) that brought together ten higher education institutions and education stakeholders across Europe. It succeeded in co-designing a future-proof syllabus for teacher education, addressing five cross-cutting themes identified as critical at the European level:
-
Education for sustainability
-
Democratic education and active citizenship
-
Gender sensitivity in teaching and learning
-
Inclusive approaches to multilingualism
-
Digitalization of learning
Rather than offering isolated standalone modules, TESTEd integrates these themes transversally into existing curricula. The project combined research-based design, cross-institutional peer collaboration, and feedback loops with practitioners, with the goal of building a framework of teacher competences to meet emerging and future societal challenges.
TESTEd’s results include a flexible syllabus model, online lecture series, Open Educational Resources (OERs) and a framework for continuous professional development (CPD) based on modular design and collaborative methodologies such as design thinking. All of these materials are available in the project’s website. These outputs can be adopted, adapted, or expanded by other projects aiming to scale up innovations in teacher education.
After the completion of TESTEd, the Finnish Ministry of Education funded the project JUUREVA to take up the mantle and to disseminate TESTEd project outcomes and resources.
We welcome collaboration with other European projects to exchange dissemination strategies, explore synergies, and promote impactful use of results across shared domains.
