Furniture sector, traditionally viewed as an industry that relies on handcrafted and manufacturing processes, in the last years has been embracing new technologies. Thus furniture companies have to keep up with the increasing technological transformation – a challenging task for organizations, requiring personnel with the skills they never had before.

They need personnel with skills related to Industry 4.0 and its key enabling technologies, and who are at the same time flexible, adaptable, and able to learn, and being able to lead the organization though the digital transformation to the bionic company.

Bionic is a company which is capable of combining technological, transversal and leadership components to achieve more productive operations and greater innovation.

The main objective of the GIST project is to develop and implement an innovative training material for SMEs, which will provide them the basic competences to reach a “bionic status”. 



IO1. GIST training path definition which encompasses a key study based on current knowledge, skills and qualifications regarding digital transformation and a Joint Curriculum to define the necessary learning outcomes and the methodology which cover previously identified gaps.

IO2. GIST Training content development addressing the following topics: I) Introduction to digital transformation; II) Industry 4.0 Key Enabling Technologies for Bionic transformation of SMEs; III) Transversal skills for Bionic transformation of SMEs and IV) Leadership skills for Bionic transformation of SMEs.

IO3. GIST Collaborative platform and verification action will develop collaborative platform where all the content developed will be integrated, and with a Verification Action the target users will handle, check and assess training content.

This training material will focus on companies in the furniture sector and related. For furniture companies, it is important to gain momentum and ensure competitiveness and sustainable and adaptative manufacturing able to cope with external disturbances and rising environmental and social requirements.
